RAM memory consumption #236

Dear all,
I am writing about memory consumption of Hamster-gtk. I love the application, and I am really looking forward to help its development.
I would like to give feedback on the amount of RAM taken by Hamster-gtk. At the moment, it is above 4% of my 16GB RAM ~ above 610 MB. I think it is excessive for such a small program.
I would be happy to start a discussion in view of preparing optimization of the memory taken by the program, and hopefully helping its development in near future.
